1. Does electrolysis work?
Yes! Electrolysis is the only proven method of permanent hair removal.
There are three different methods of electrolysis:
Thermolysis: A heat method which seals off the blood supply. Some scabbing will occur.
Galvanic: A chemical reaction occurs in the follicle which seals off the blood supply.
Blend: Thermolysis and Galvanic are combined resulting in a fast and effective treatment.
- blend is generally less painful and gentle on the skin.
2. How to choose a competent and qualified electrologist?
This is very important and choose following these guidelines:
- Take as much time choosing an electrologist as you would a doctor, dentist, or any other personal care provider.
- The electrologist should be registered with the provincial association as this assures their competence.
- Training, skill, and experience are essential for safe and permanent hair removal. Members of the BC Association of Electrolysis have been screened to ensure valid credentials. Members must pass both a written and practical exam.
- Referrals are very important. Ask your electrologist for references and be sure to ask for clients that have finished their electrolysis treatments.
3. Is more than one treatment required?
Numerous factors determine the number and length of treatments required.
- Skill of the electrologist is very important.
- It will depend on the amount of hair, genetics, hormones medical history, and possibly some medications. Etc.
- Hair grows in cycles and not all hair is visible at the same time so more than one treatment is required.
- This will be discussed at your free consultation.
(Note: Permanent hair removal should be noticed after two or three treatments.)
4. When should you notice results?
Results can be noticed even after the first electrolysis treatment, but definitely noticeable after the second or third electrolysis treatment. If you don’t notice results, discuss this with your electrologist and/or do further reading about electrolysis.
5. Can electrolysis treat all hair colors?
Electrolysis can treat every color of hair. Even vellus hair (peach fuzz).
6. Can electrolysis treat all skin colors?
Each hair is treated individually so skin color is not a factor. Every skin color can be treated.
7. Does electrolysis hurt?
Electrolysis is tolerated by most clients. Some areas of the body are more sensitive than other areas. If you are sensitive, topical anaesthetics are available. We can discuss this at your free consultation.
8. Is electrolysis safe?
Electrolysis was invented in 1875 by Dr. Charles Michel, for the purpose of removing ingrown eyelashes. It has been used safely and effectively all over the world to remove hair anywhere on the body. Today it is the only proven method of permanent hair removal.
Advanced Electrolysis Studio uses high grade sterile disposable filaments (needles) and autoclaves equipment (hospital standards). Also, the strictest, up to date, infection control recommendations are followed.
Be sure to check out your surroundings and be sure the work area is clean and should be cleaned between each client.
9. Can hair be removed from any part of the body?
Yes. Common areas on women are: chin, upper lip, eyebrows, breasts, armpits, and bikini line. But hair can be removed from anywhere. I’ve even done hands and toes.
Common areas on men are the top of the nose, ears, and unibrow.
